What is Pick a Good Name?

Pick a Good Name is a free online tool that helps you find the right name for almost anything. Choosing a name is often the hardest part of starting something new, and staring at a blank page does not help. Here, you describe your idea in a sentence or two, pick a style, and the generator gives you a list of options. Every suggestion comes with a short explanation, so you understand why it works and can decide faster.

The tool is built for business owners, creators, parents, pet owners and anyone who needs a name quickly. You can use it on your phone or computer, and the whole page is available in English, Urdu and Hindi.

Seven tools in one place

1. Business and brand name generator

Get name ideas for a company, brand, product, website, app or game character. Each name comes with a short meaning and a quick link to check whether the .com domain is available, so you can avoid falling in love with a name you cannot register.

2. Slogan generator

A good slogan says what you do in a few words and sticks in the mind. Describe your brand and get short, catchy taglines, each with a note on why it works.

3. Username generator

Find unique, easy-to-type handles for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and gaming. Usernames are short, have no spaces, and are easy to say out loud.

4. Baby name finder

Choose girl, boy or unisex, add any preferences such as short names or nature-inspired meanings, and get baby names with their origin and meaning.

5. Pet name generator

Describe your dog, cat, bird or fish and get cute, funny or classic names that suit their personality and looks.

6. Hashtag generator

Tell us what your post is about and pick a platform. You get hashtag ideas with a note on when to use each one, so your posts are easier to find.

7. Name rater

Already have a name in mind? Type it in with a short description of what it is for. The tool gives it a score out of 10, lists its strengths and weak points, and suggests three stronger alternatives.

How to use the generator

  1. Pick a tool. Use the tabs at the top to choose names, slogans, usernames, baby names, pet names, hashtags or the name rater.
  2. Describe your idea. Write what you do, who it is for and what feeling you want. You can also tap one of the examples or press “Surprise me”.
  3. Choose a category and style. Modern, professional, funny, traditional, short and catchy, or luxury. You can pick more than one.
  4. Pick a language. Choose English, Urdu, Hindi, Roman Urdu or another style under “More options”.
  5. Generate. Copy the names you like, save your favorites, or tap “Generate more” for a fresh batch.
  6. Check the domain. For business names, use “Check domain” to see whether the .com is available before you commit.

Names in English, Urdu and Hindi

You can use the tool in English, Urdu or Hindi using the language buttons at the top. The names themselves can also be created in different languages:

  • English: the default, ideal for international brands and .com domains.
  • Urdu (اردو): names written in Urdu script.
  • Hindi (हिन्दी): names written in Devanagari script.
  • Roman Urdu / Hinglish: Urdu or Hindi words written in English letters, which are easy to type, search and use in domains and social handles.
  • Latin, Arabic or Japanese inspired: names with the sound and feel of another language.
  • Invented word: a brand-new word that is easy to protect and make your own.

What makes a good name

  • Easy to say and spell. If people cannot type your name into a search bar, they cannot find you.
  • Short. One or two words and under ten characters are easier to remember and fit better on logos, signs and social handles.
  • Distinct. A name that sounds like a competitor causes confusion and weakens your brand.
  • Meaningful, but not too narrow. A name that hints at what you do helps people understand you quickly. A name that is too specific can limit you later. “Sam’s Pickles” becomes a problem when you start selling sauces too.
  • Available. Check the domain, the main social handles and trademarks in your country before you commit.

Naming ideas by style

  • Modern names are short and clean, often invented or blended words. They suit apps, startups and online brands.
  • Professional names are clear and trustworthy. They suit consulting, legal, finance and other services.
  • Funny names are friendly and memorable. They work well for food, kids, pets and lifestyle brands.
  • Traditional names feel established and rooted in heritage. They suit family businesses, crafts and restaurants.
  • Luxury names are elegant and simple. They suit fashion, beauty, jewelry and premium products.

Tips for getting better results

  • Be specific. “An online store selling homemade pickles and sauces” gives better ideas than “food business”.
  • Run it more than once. Try a different style each time and compare the results.
  • Mix and adjust. Combine parts of two names you like, or change a letter or ending to make a name your own.
  • Say it out loud. If it is hard to pronounce, your customers will struggle too.
  • Test your shortlist. Show your top three names to people who match your customers and see which one they remember a day later.
  • Use the rater. Paste your favorite into the name rater to spot weak points before you commit.

Why choosing a good name matters

A name is the first impression people have of your business, channel or product. It appears on your website, packaging, social media and in every recommendation. A strong name makes you easier to remember, easier to find in search and easier to trust. It also affects practical things: whether you can get a matching domain and social handles, and whether the name will still fit when you grow.

A generator will not make the final choice for you, but it removes the blank page. Seeing twenty or thirty options quickly helps you notice what you like and what you do not, which is usually the fastest way to find a direction.

Frequently asked questions

Is the name generator free?

Yes. You can use every tool without paying and without creating an account.

Do I need to sign up?

No. Type your idea and generate names straight away.

Are the names unique?

The tool creates new suggestions each time, but it cannot guarantee that a name is not already used by someone else. Always search the name, check the domain and social handles, and review trademarks in your country before you commit.

Does the tool check domain availability?

It gives you a link to search the .com version of each business name on a domain registrar. Availability can change quickly, so confirm with the registrar before you buy.

Can I get names in Urdu or Hindi?

Yes. Open “More options” and choose Urdu, Hindi or Roman Urdu. You can also switch the whole page to Urdu or Hindi with the language buttons at the top.

Is there a limit on how many names I can generate?

To keep the tool free for everyone, there is a daily limit for each visitor. If you reach it, come back the next day.

Can I use the names commercially?

You can use the suggestions as ideas or as they are. Because we cannot check every trademark in every country, you are responsible for making sure a name is legally safe for your use.

Do you save what I type?

Your saved names stay in your own browser. Your description is sent to an AI service to generate suggestions, so please do not enter personal or confidential information. See our Privacy Policy for details.
